Jumping the gun

Leftliberal cause-junkies always try to to make Sangh Parivar the scapegoat

Even before investigations have begun in right ear nest in the murder of Gauri Lankesh, the verdicts are out and the ready-to-protest groups of civil society -activists, intellectuals and rebels in search of a cause have jumped into the arena. Lankesh’s murder is one more occasion to pillory Narendra Modi, the BJP and the RSS. It does not matter if it is a Congress government in the state in which Lankesh was murdered; similarly it had not mattered that Narendra Dabholkar was murdered when a Congress dispensation was in power in Maharashtra in 2013, or that M M Kalburgi was killed when this same Congress dispensation ruled Karnataka in 2015.It did not matter that it was robbers who had broken into the convent in Ranaghat in Nadia in West Bengal, and were the ones who had raped a 72-year-old nun in 2015.

The truth when out was quietly buried by these protestors who were the first ones to blame, for each of these past and present acts, the RSS, the BJP and, for them, more importantly Modi. The truth did not fit into their ideological and political rubric and did not serve their sole objective to denigrate the Sangh, BJP and Modi. The concerned state governments were never asked questions, they were exempt because they were not BJP regimes, did not have a BJP chief minister and of course did not have Modi as their national leader. Thus Akhilesh Yadav was never asked why he presided, for years, over such a pathetic healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh that saw continuous child deaths, nor has Siddaramaiah been asked anything about the huge number of newborn deaths in Kolar. Similarly, Pinarayi Vijayan is never questioned about the series of murders of BJP and RSS workers that his partymen have habitually carried out in Kerala under his rule, nor has Siddaramaiah ever been asked about the murder of BJP and RSS activists that have repeatedly taken place under his watch in the past two years.

The CPI-M, for example, which has never condemned Naxal excesses, which never dares take on ultra-leftists, anarchists and extortionists who dupe people in the name of some illusory revolution in the making, was quick to react to Lankesh’s murder, implying, through a public statement, that she was done away by groups affiliated to the RSS-BJP.Posters were painted, leaflets prepared, poems composed and processions taken out in a very short time with great dexterity indicating that these groups actually wait and salivate for the next murder so that they can start politicking by obfuscating the truth.

As always, this time too, it is assumed that `right-wing’ groups, affiliated to the BJPRSS are behind Lankesh’s murder. It is fashionable to do so for the rootless elites. But why should one even assume such a thing? Until it is clear who has done it, isn’t it rather unwise to assume such a thing?
Lankesh was vocal on a number of issues and had taken on many groups. Will the CPI-M and its com munist affiliates, for example, issue clarifications and distance themselves if we are similarly to assume for a moment that Naxals did it basing our selves on report that have appeared over the last two days from fringe ultra-leftist groups? Why is the Congress government of Karnataka not distancing itself from or exposing interest groups that Lankesh had taken on and about whom the state government has or should have had knowledge and information, etc.

It has actually become a fashion to blame the RSS and BJP for anything of this nature that takes place regardless of who is actually responsible. In the past, starting from the church attacks in Delhi to other murders of intellectuals and journalists that have taken place during the Congress regime, the BJP continued to be blamed without an iota of evidence ever surfacing. The evidence when it did surface, as in the case of the string of church attacks in Delhi in late 2014, pointed to an absolutely different story miscreants, street urchins, disgruntled elements within. On such occasions these fashionable protestors, who make a living and a career out of abusing Modi and the RSS, go silent, without even having the decency or grace to stand up and say that they were wrong. How can they , when all the wrong, all the ills of this nation, all the dis graceful conduct can be very casually be placed at the door of Modi and the RSS! As to distancing themselves from negative and violent elements, it is only RSS and BJP which have always come out unambiguously against any form of violence and vigilantism. What some dubious groups do, some self-styled religious or social conglomerates indulge in can’t be attributed to RSS and BJP . Most often these groups or individuals have antecedents which are in no way connected to RSSBJP and rather point to connections with elements that have as their aim the creation of societal disruptions. The Congress, in fact, scores high on its association with such elements, it has for decades fanned many a conflagration.

Except for attacking the BJPRSS, neither communists nor the Congress have ever distanced themselves from violent groups that they have themselves nurtured, spawned or patronised over the years. The spree of political killings in Kerala and murders of workers in Karnataka all belonging to RSSBJP over the past few years is stark evidence of that opportunistic and selective silence.

Has the CPI-M ever condemned the bone-chilling violence that their bike-borne Harmads carried out for years in West Bengal against political opponents despite their political connection and patronage being evident? Nowadays it has become de rigueur to attack Modi, his party and the RSS, let logic, evidence, truth, reality, actual facts be thrown to the wind and the devil. If one can repeatedly blame Modi, spit on his persona and make a show of it, it certainly opens up wide avenues for all sorts of lucrative patronage…
