The MAJOR RALENGNAO “BOB” KHATHING MUSEUM OF VALOUR in #Tawang, inaugurated by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh in 2024, and conceived by former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, who was also GoC-in-C of the Eastern Command, is a MUST visit for every Indian.
The museum commemorates the life of a unique Indian soldier, administrator and diplomat Bob Khathing, a Tangkhul Naga, born in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. An established soldier by 1951, Major Khathing undertook one the most vital mission of cementing India’s unity and integrity.
After a historic trek of nearly a month from Assam’s Chariduar, near Tezpur to Tawang, with a column of Assam Rifle personnel, Major Khathing planted the Indian Tricolour in Tawang in February 14, 1951.
This act of valour must be counted as one of the greatest feats cementing national unity. Major Khathing’s life remains a beacon of inspiration exuding unflinching commitment to national service and national unity. People of #Tawang and people of #ArunachalPradesh continue to remain grateful to him and so must every right-thinking Indian. In later years Major Khathing’s contribution to independent India was multi-dimensional.
The Museum has been inspiringly and imaginatively curated, is world class and blends history, military history and culture of the region, especially of the Monpas. The #IndianArmy has done a stellar job in setting up the Museum and in maintaining it. I was also impressed to see a large number of tourists and history enthusiasts especially youngsters flock to the Museum.
An impressive light-and-sound show in tribute to the #indianarmy’s valour in defending these challenging terrain in 1962, greets the visitors.
Was especially happy to walk through the Museum with General Anil Chauhan. Thanks to GoC Gajraj Corps, Lt General Neeraj Shukla for various dynamic and creative efforts.
It is one of the finest contributions of the #ModiGovernment to #RashtriyaEkta, to national honour, history and culture.
