Kolkata: The Bengal BJP has sent six names for the Bhowanipore bypoll for consideration of the BJP brass in Delhi. “The name of the BJP candidate for Bhowanipore will be announced on Wednesday,” Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said.
The proposed six names include former Tripura governor and former BJP president Tathagata Roy, high court lawyer and BJP candidate from Entally in the 2021 Bengal assembly polls Priyanka Tibrewal who played a leading role in lodging post-poll violence complaints in the high court, BJP’s Bolpur candidate in the assembly polls Anirban Ganguly, BJP candidate from Bhowanipore in the assembly poll Rudranil Ghosh, BJP state vice-president Pratap Banerjee and BJP post-poll victim Abhijit Sarkar’s elder brother Biswajit Sarkar.
The BJP, however, began its campaign by filing a complaint with the Election Commission against the state government announcing donations to clubs “who play a crucial role in the electoral process”. Ghosh said the party has started its booth-level organization work.
Ghosh came down heavily on Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee over his comments on Monday that as many as 25 BJP MLAs were eager to join Trinamool. “Let the Trinamool MLAs and MPs face the ED and CBI questioning first. They will then think of poaching BJP MLAs. The prolonged questioning by ED leaves broad hints that the matter is serious,” he said. “Regarding Amit Shah’s son, everything is in the domain. People can move court if they want to,” he added.
