Was happy to welcome Venerable Nipon, Vice President, International Buddhist Council, Bodhgaya and Secretary of the Wat Royal Thai Temple, Bodhgaya.
Completely immersed in Bharat-Thailand’s civilisational connect through Buddhism, Ven Nipon did his graduation and masters in Sanskrit.
A popular teacher, an accomplished linguist and an impressive raconteur connecting Bharat-Thailand through Dharmic commonalities, he drew a parallel between Samrat Ashoka’s Dhamma-Yatras from the past with PM Modi’s present efforts of sending sacred Relic Yatras from India to Buddhist countries.
As President of the Maha Bodhi Society of India, when Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee had convened the first International Buddhist Cultural Conference in Sanchi, in December, 1952, Thailand was actively represented by its Ambassador to India, well-known Thai nationalist intellectual, historian, playwright and novelist Luang Wichitwathakan. Wichitwathakan is considered the ideological fount of Thai nationalism credited with changing the country’s name from Siam to Thailand.
An interesting and enriching exchange of ideas and perspectives. Looking forward to carrying the dialogue.
