Delighted to receive my copy of ‘India’s Maoists: Glimpses into Red Insurgency”, by the author, the indomitable P V Ramana, a friend of long-standing with an encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of the Red menace and its evolution, history.

One of the finest minds on the subject, Ramana has trudged through the most difficult terrains, having undertaken extensive field studies over the years.

Packed with information and insights the book is a detailed compendium of the Red terror network and eco-system. Once acknowledged and lamented as the “single largest internal security challenge to the country”, by a helpless former Prime Minister, late Dr Manmohan Singh, the Naxal threat is now emitting a final death rattle under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is replete with records of episodes of Naxal-Maoist attacks & exposes their extortionist network & the deliberate war against development and connectivity: “the Maoists had set on fire 70 trucks in North Jharkhand when a major road construction work was being undertaken., merely to instil fear and extort money, though it is not known how many crore rupees might have been paid. Similarly, the Subarnarekha irrigation canal is an important project in South Jharkhand. Several crores of rupees are believed to have been extorted by Maoists in this project, too, and the amounts were said to be paid in transactions conducted in East Singhbum and Kolkata.”

“This book, discusses various issues relating to Naxalites of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), a proscribed organisation, whose objective is to ‘organise the masses and capture political power through armed overthrow of the state’ and, thereafter, establish ‘New Democracy,’ ‘New Economy’, ‘New Culture,’ through ‘Protracted People’s War.’

A very very timely publication – which will make the general reader and conscious citizen, who are committed to #ViksitBharat, aware of the threat and illusion of ‘New Democracy’, of the Naxal-Maoist variety.

Until #DimagiNaxals are eradicated/decimated the struggle must unceasingly continue. It is these #DimagiNaxals who are apologists and ideologues of the poison called “Protracted People’s War.
