In a quiet corner of Achabal, in Anantnag, is Nagdandi, where at the foot of a dense forested hill stands the serene campus of Sri Ramakrishna Mahasammelan Ashram, founded by Swami Ashokananda (Deenabandhu Mukherjee) in 1937. A highly realised Yogi, inspired by Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sarada and Swami Vivekananda, Swami Ashokananda was immersed in tapasya and seva in this region for decades until his Mahasamadhi in 1971. The vibrations of his penance permeates the premises.
