It was also one of the centres of the freedom struggle. Doyen of Indian journalism the iconic Sj Ramananda Chattopadhyay was born in Bankura. Also called on the ailing Shri Sukumar Banerjee, historian and writer, with an encyclopaedic knowledge and understanding of this region. He has worked extensively on recovering Bankura’s rich religious-cultural and nationalist legacy. Exchanged books, discussed various issues and wished him speedy recovery.
