Meanwhile, when Priyanka was asked about the comments made by BJP leaders, she said that the government should do something about the atrocities happening against the Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh.
Hours after Congress’s Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi carried a bag with Palestine emblazoned over it to the Parliament session on Monday, BJP launched a scathing attack, asking what messages she wanted to send across. The saffron camp called Priyanka’s show of solidarity with Palestine a ‘fashion statement’, asking why the Congress parliamentarian did not speak a word on the atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.
“She did not speak a word on atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh but wants to make a fashion statement with the Palestine bag,” BJP MP Anurag Thakur claimed.
BJP leader Dr Anirban Ganguly called the Congress party, the new Muslim League and claimed that Priyanka Gandhi is neither well-informed nor well-read.
“Congress is the new Muslim League. Priyanka Gandhi is neither well-informed nor is she educated. She is absolutely unaware of the geopolitical landscape… Right from Pt Nehru to Priyanka Gandhi, they have always shown their anti-Hindu mindset. They never said anything about the persecuted minorities in Bangladesh. Her carrying the Palestine bag to the Parliament is nothing but the Muslim League agenda,” he said.
Meanwhile, when Priyanka was asked about the comments made by BJP leaders, she said that the government should do something about the atrocities happening against the Hindus and Christians in Bangladesh.
“Tell them that they should do something about the atrocities that are happening to minorities — Hindus and Christians — in Bangladesh. Talk to the Bangladesh government and stop these atrocities,” the Congress leader said.
Her unique show of support for Palestine also evoked support from the opposition with CPI MP Sandosh Kumar hailing her stand.
“Carrying a Palestine bag is not Muslim appeasement. Those who relate Palestine issue to as Muslim issue are doing injustice because that is a humanitarian issue… It is a genuine international issue which we all have to support and CPI stands with Palestine,” he said.
Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, the Charge d’Affaires of the Palestine Embassy in New Delhi, met Gandhi last week to congratulate her on winning the recent Lok Sabha by-poll in Wayanad, Kerala.
In June, Gandhi criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing his government of “genocidal actions” in Gaza and condemning their actions as “barbaric.”
