Called on Union Minister for Culture, Tourism & Development of Northeastern Region Shri G Kishan Reddy Ji. Had a detailed discussion on the iconic Uttarpara Joykrishna Library & the other heritage structures in the area. Apprised him of the need for their upkeep & upgradation and the neglect these structures are currently facing. Specifically requested his intervention in supporting the upgradation & modernisation of the Uttarpara Joykrishna Library. It was here that on 30 May, 1909, Sri Aurobindo delivered his timeless “Uttarpara Speech”. Hon’ble Minister expressed his concern & assured of full support and help from the Union Govt for the preservation of these iconic heritage structures and modernisation and expansion of the Library as well. It is expected that the West Bengal govt will respond in a cooperative spirit in the interest of Bengal’s history & heritage and its future.
